Let the Right One in Analysis Essay - 1227 Words
BONDING THROUGH EXILE: An Analysis of Mise-en-Scà ¨ne in Let the Right One In The theme of loneliness and isolation has been predominant in cinema since its inception, but Tomas Alfredson explores the idea in a unique way in his 2008 Swedish romantic horror film, Let the Right One In. Set in the snowy winter of Stockholm, the film depicts the similarly cold and depressing life of Oskar, a young target of bullying. This frozen, barren setting contributes to the complete isolation that the viewer feels with the characters. Through strategic shot composition and specific color and mood choices, Alfredson shows how both Oskar and Eli are cut off from the world in different ways, and then how their common bloodlust brings them together.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The camera slowly pans around the playground, showing the bland walls of the apartment complex surrounding it to amplify their sense of overwhelming loneliness. Oskar, wanting to find a companion in Eli, provides her with his rubikââ¬â¢s cube to solve. The rubikââ¬â¢s cube can also be seen a s Eli providing an answer to Oskarââ¬â¢s problems. Both his life and his rubikââ¬â¢s cube are puzzles that need solving, and Eli literally drops in to solve everything for him. This early scene sets the tone for the rest of the movie and establishes both the characters as lonely outcasts that need to be saved. As the relationship between Oskar and Eli continues to blossom, Oskar finds out that Eli lives off blood to survive. After this realization, there is a scene where Eli arrives at Oskarââ¬â¢s house. Oskar attempts to let her in by motioning and gesturing but she refuses to cross the threshold. She finally enters without his permission, causing her to bleed from every opening on her face, turning her into a grotesque image of her true vampiric form. This causes Oskar to give her permission to enter. This scene symbolizes the finality of the relationship between Oskar and Eli. Eli is a violent murderer, and Oskar has violent ambitions, and this is the moment where Eli attempts to turn those ambitions into reality. The way the shots of Oskar and Eli are composed suggest aShow MoreRelatedEssay on Racial Hatred in Notes of a Native Son1630 Words à |à 7 Pages ââ¬Å"Notes of a Native Sonâ⬠: Baldwinââ¬â¢s Essay on the Disease of Racial Hatred Racism is an ugly word that churns up strong emotions whenever it is mentioned. Topic - Why Research Paper Topics Is More Interesting Than Others
Topic - Why Research Paper Topics Is More Interesting Than OthersIt is normal for students to have an assortment of topics they are interested in writing a research paper on, such as history, literature, science, and religion. However, for most students, the most interesting topic is the one that explores the relationship between or causes and effects between these topics. The aim of a research paper is to give a non-technical explanation of a specific topic, related to it, or explain why it has its own existence. Thus, we find that some topics are more interesting than others, since they have a greater potential to explain different ideas. One way to determine which topics are more interesting is to consider the topics that caused other topics to develop. In terms of history, we can look at famous issues, whether the topic was politically, socially, or economically driven. For example, many wars were started because people found an issue that was close to their hearts. Other issues we re developed from that one.Other subjects are themselves driven by causes. For example, after somebody created an argument, another topic was created. Thus, the development of the argument itself was the driving force behind the formation of the issues. Thus, in this case, the issue is not strictly a cause of another. Some other subjects that create the topic that has the same 'cause' are the subjects themselves. For example, if an idea or political movement is developed by accident, other topics are formed because people find the idea helpful to other people. These topics are also a result of the original one.People also use the concept of 'right or wrong' to affect the topic. An idea is used by people who want to see its development, or people who want to hinder it. So, when we analyze topics as being based on right or wrong, we are referring to both the topic's origins and the causes that created it.One of the biggest issues facing a student today is that he or she will have to sp ecialize in one of these fields to continue their education. There is a perception that if a student has an interest in one field, he or she will have to teach about it, otherwise he or she may be unable to get into a good college. Some argue that this view is unfair, since professors often need both students and instructors to be specialists.Regardless of which type of specialization a student chooses, the purpose of the research paper topics will be the same. A research paper must be able to give a short explanation of an issue, and it must provide information to support that explanation. Thus, if a student wants to write a successful research paper, he or she should be familiar with the purpose of the paper.

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed Essay Example
Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed Paper The first novel that I finished reading was Jurassic Park, by Michael Chriton. That was the first book that captivated my imagination and brought me into the world of reading. I noticed that the book was far better than the movie. My imagination could take me any where and my mind painted extraordinary pictures of hundreds of beautiful dinosaurs walking along side fully developed characters with whom I could relate to. I felt their fear, joy, and even sadness. All I can say is that I was addicted, and I kept on reading. Since than, I have read hundreds of books. I treat the books I read with a lot of caution. Like everyone else, I feel that my time is very precious. If I invest my time into reading, than the reading must yield some sort of profit. As Samuel Patterson once put it, Books, like friends, should be few and well chosen. My best friends are friends from whom I might be able to gain some wisdom. The literature I choose to read must contain some wisdom that I can gain. The first book I read where I felt that I had truly gained some wisdom was, Platos Republic. I spent months reading the book. I slowly digest every single word that Socrates had spoken. Even though the book was nearly 3,000 years old, every single idea was totally new to me. I learned about justice, freedom, war, the good, the bad, politics, hate, love, god, and so much more. I was able to incorporate many of those ideas in the world we live in today. For a short time, I studied the Socratic Method, and tried to incorporate his style of conversation with my friends. The book was a book of wisdom. In some ways, it could even be a guide on how to live your life. Its the one book that I can easily recommend to everyone. The book tries to explain why American life has become so good over the last one hundred years. It sums up nearly 2,000 years of human struggle over food, money, and literature in order to unmask the reasons as to why we can live so comfortably in the 20th, and now the 21st, century. Perhaps the most significant argument the book made was of the worlds history during the dark ages of Europe. Apparently, while Europe was experiencing the dark ages, the rest of the world was busy at producing advanced mathematical concepts, pieces of art, and works of literature. The book opened my eyes to the world of Islam, a place where oil lamps were being used for lighting (instead of candles), where people washed every day, and beautiful churches were built in the name of god. Eventually, the book took me on a tour through the industrial age and it helped me to appreciate the life I have living in America. Another work of literature that helped set my mind to the way it is today is a short essay called A Message to Garcia, by Elbert Hubbard. This short ten page essay helped me to realize the one thing that must be learned the hard way, a strong and proper work ethic. After reading the essay, hundreds of thoughts burst into my head. I soon began to realize how the rich could become so rich, how America could become so prosperous, and even how to improve my laziness. I stopped asking so many questions and just got to work. No matter how much I might disapprove of something, if a job is given to me, I must try my best to complete the job. This short little essay changed the whole way I treat every second of my life. It is amazing that the mind is one part of the human body that improves the more you use it. I must agree with something that Francis Bacon once said, I would live to study, and not study to live. With that, I hope I can study as well as I live my life.
